Thanks to this new platform, Ericsson patents will be available to those interested in their patent licenses in a more efficient manner. This is the reason why, according to the company, this platform is been created: in order to cover the needs of patent licensing in today's market. In this way, the platform, operated by an independent company, will adopt a model of income sharing for partner companies, and will receive a license on behalf of patent holders, in order to simplify their access to standard technology.
According to the President and CEO of Ericsson, Hans Vestberg, this idea of offering patent licenses more efficiently responds to increasing demand by more and more industries to embrace the connectivity and the Internet of things, and it is crucial that the essential technology be accessible and that innovators continue receiving returns on their R&D investments.
This could be interpreted as another further step towards greater accessibility of the "Internet of things" by all our things.
