End of the Kylie Minogue v Kylie Jenner trademark battle

20.02.2017

On 19 January 2017, the trademark battle between Kylie Minogue and Kylie Jenner appears to have come to an end.

Kylie Jenner, famous for the US reality show "keeping up with the Kardashians", wanted to register the name Kylie before the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) back in 2015. In particular, she wanted to register the mark KYLIE for entertainment and advertising.

Conversely, Australian pop star Kylie Minogue has been blocking the registration since, by filing an opposition in February 2016, based on likelihood of confusion, dilution by blurring and dilution by tarnishment to Kylie Minogue's branding. Minogue argued that she already owns KYLIE related trademarks in the US in several industries as well as the domain name www.kylie.com.

However, last 19 January, the opposition was withdrawn, allowing Jenner's application to proceed to registration, raising the possibility that a possible agreement is in place.
