New European Regulation on data protection

17.05.2016

The new regulation, which is based on the idea of a greater control of private information in the world of technology, improves the control and management of that information by the companies operating in the European Union. This regulation is also applicable to companies working outside the European Union as long as they are addressed to European consumers. Furthermore, this regulation includes the right to oblivion, which allows the correction or deletion of personal data and the right to portability of the data from one company to another.

It also includes new regulating mechanisms of supervision and control, so that national competition authorities have the prior approval of information flow before they occur and not only after you have violations of the rules.

Lastly, this regulation establishes a European Data Protection Board, which will be comprised of representatives of each of the 28 independent control authorities which  will have the capacity to make legally binding decisions.
