WIPO launches the Mediation Pledge for IP and technology disputes

23.03.2019

The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) is the global forum for IP services, policy, information and cooperation. WIPO provides companies, universities and research and development (R&D) centres with an efficient route for protecting inventions, trade marks and designs across borders.

Through its mediation centre, WIPO offers the Mediation Pledge for IP and Technology Disputes, which aims to promote the use of mediation in order to help reduce the impact of disputes in innovation and creative processes.

As WIPO Director General Francis Gurry observed: “As an informal out-of-court dispute resolution process, mediation has proven highly effective in assisting parties to settle IP and technology disputes. The WIPO Arbitration and Mediation Center’s experience shows that, in focusing the parties on their respective interests, mediation helps them to save time and costs and to get on with their business. The WIPO Mediation Pledge aims to increase awareness of the particular advantages that mediation brings for resolving IP and technology disputes.”

Stakeholders interested in joining the WIPO Pledge are welcome to complete the Pledge form here.
