The European Union Antitrust Chief Formally Accused Google

24.04.2015

Last Wednesday Margrethe Vestager , the EU competition commissioner, accused  to the company Google of distorting Internet search results in their own platform  and then began antitrust investigation into whether Google plays a lead role in Android smartphone software  operating system to benefit the own services and applications.

The accusations base from the rivals of Google particularly in websites for shopping. The commission issues some formal charges as statements of objections.

In 2013 the Federal Trade Commission in United States investigated a similar complaints against some antitrust activities from Google, but without taking any action and was closed that inquiry. However  the company may not be so lucky in Europe, because Google has a 92% plus share in the EU market comparing to the 3% in Bing, 2% Yahoo, 1% Yandex and 2% others.

Also there are other complaints from EU about google too in terms of: the accusations of tax avoidance, some publishing conflicts in Spain that Google refused to pay up for linking articles by Spanish publishers and the right to be forgotten following a ruling from the Supreme Court  in 13 of may 2014

Last but not least are some companies investigating Google´s business practices inside and outside Europe such as Taiwan, Brazil, Canada and India.
