Ghesquière left the company amicably in 2012, acquiring 6´5 millions of euros, plus shares valued at 32 millions of euros. The termination of the contract between the renowned brand and the designer contained clauses in which they agreed that he could not make statements that might damage the trade mark.
The Balenciaga group felt that he infringed these clauses the moment that the dressmaker criticized the strategy of the brand in the interviews made by different media, like the magazine “System”.
For this reason, Balenciaga claimed 7 millions of euros in damages.
The high Court of Paris has given out the option of solving the conflict through the mediation process that has been approved by the two parties.
We will pay attention to the development about this case.
