Google threatens to stop indexing the French press

19.10.2012

A new French legislative initiative proposes that search engines such as Google should pay for linking editorial content and newspapers on its searches. The initiative was not well received within Google, which stated the possibility to stop linking French content to avoid paying the tax. The search engine’s decision has made some people to realise the disadvantages of not being present in French contents in Google, one of the biggest search systems on Internet. As a result, this might end up on a higher level of Google-presence for Anglo-saxon information and publications which do not have to abide by this kind of taxes.
