In collaboration with the Criminal Court of Ponferrada, the firm Media2 has shown in 2017 the benefits of mediation to the population of Bierzo, offering those involved in a criminal act the opportunity to be part of a mediation process, in which they had the opportunity to resolve the personal conflict behind the facts, which is often difficult in legal proceedings.
This collaboration is offered free of charge by Media2 through an agreement signed with the General Council of the Judiciary and thanks to the support of judge Óscar Hernáiz, head of the Criminal Court number 1 and the entire Criminal Upad. This project that has elapsed throughout the year 2017 includes nine cases, in which a total of 24 people were involved. Of the 24 involved invited to intervene in the mediations, 22 accepted the participation.
The results are optimistic for mediation, those responsible for the judicial mediation services highlight that "the balance of 2017 is positive: 50% of the participants improved their personal relationship and almost 25% managed to reach agreements at the mediation table, wrote their apologies and made decisions on their civil responsibility to accelerate the conclusion of their judicial procedure". They also pointed out "the absolute need for the development of public policies that encompass both the economic and strategic support of these services in order to reach more citizens. It must be remembered that mediation also reports an important benefit for society as a whole, improves the perception of justice and builds trust in the legal system."
